The Gardens

A Garden Shaped by Generations

The gardens at Errisbeg House are as much a part of its history as the house itself.

Set across approximately three acres beneath Errisbeg Mountain, they offer a peaceful retreat filled with the colours, textures and changing seasons of Connemara.

Much of the garden's early development can be traced to Eileen de Stacpoole, who began creating and nurturing the grounds during the family's summer visits in the early 20th century.

Over the years, the gardens have developed their own character, blending cultivated planting with the wild beauty of the surrounding countryside. Roses, foxgloves, ferns and established shrubs contribute to an atmosphere that feels both romantic and wonderfully natural.

Stone, water, flowers and trees sit comfortably alongside the rugged landscape beyond the garden walls. The gardens have also played an important role in Errisbeg's artistic life, offering inspiration to visiting painters, photographers and sculptors.

The gardens are also home to the little people. The fairies have long been part of the story of Errisbeg House — keep an eye out for their homes tucked among the stones, roots and hedges as you wander. Some say they are the true keepers of the garden.

Today, they remain a place to wander, reflect and enjoy the slower pace of life at Errisbeg House.
